The Fox and the Grapes

A hungry fox spots a bunch of ripe grapes hanging high above him. He jumps again and again but cannot reach them. At last he walks away, telling himself that the grapes were probably sour anyway. Aesop’s short fable shows how people sometimes pretend not to want something simply because they cannot have it.
