Story by Touch is an accessibility-focused reading initiative that helps make folktales and children’s stories available to blind and visually impaired readers through downloadable Braille files.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to discover stories independently, regardless of how they read.

Our growing online collection includes folktales, traditional stories, and children’s books in multiple languages, prepared in Braille-compatible digital formats that can be downloaded and used with Braille embossers, refreshable Braille displays, and other accessible reading tools.

Stories are especially important in childhood. They introduce children to new places and ideas, preserve cultural traditions, build language skills, and create a sense of imagination and possibility. Yet many stories that are easily available in print or online remain difficult for Braille readers to access, particularly in languages or communities where accessible reading materials are limited.

Story by Touch hopes to help narrow that gap.

We work to identify and prepare stories that can be appropriately shared, including traditional and public-domain works as well as materials made available with permission where required. Whenever possible, we include stories from different countries and cultural traditions so that children can not only enjoy reading but also discover how people around the world tell stories about family, courage, kindness, nature, friendship, and everyday life.

The files on our website are provided for download and educational use, allowing schools, libraries, nonprofit organizations, teachers, families, and community groups to produce Braille copies locally rather than depending on a physical book to be shipped from another location.

Our goal is simple: to make more stories easier to reach.

A story may begin on a printed page, but it does not need to be seen to be imagined.

Through Story by Touch, stories can be read, shared, and discovered one touch at a time.
